The Visual Archives of Wall Paintings: Reading and Documenting a History of Mobility and Identity in ‘Shekhawati’

5,500.008,000.00

This Residential-workshop invites participants to explore place-making and mobility in Churu, focusing on its unique painted regions. Led by Prof. Saumya Agarwal and Sundeep Bali, the workshop provides insights into the historical context and architectural significance of Churu, along with practical training in photographic documentation.

Participants will study the town’s rich art history and document its notable structures, including intricately painted shrines and havelis — some recognized by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The workshop emphasizes hands-on photography sessions, enabling students to create a photographic archive that shows their findings and understanding of the town, shaped by merchant movements and various religious communities over the years. This experience will enhance participants’ appreciation of both the historical and contemporary aspects of this culturally significant town.
