Rajasthani Bhasha Academy is pleased to announce its Fourth Edition of the Summer School in collaboration with Chopasni Shiksha Samiti, Jodhpur and South Asia Institute, University of Texas at Austin, from  24-30 June 2026.

This week-long summer school will take place at the Mayoor Chopasni School, Jodhpur with faculty including Prof. Andrew Ollett (University of Chicago), Prof. Monika Boehm-Tettelbach (Heidelberg University, Germany), Prof. Dalpat Rajpurohit (University of Texas, Austin), Prof. Ashwini Deo (University of Texas, Austin) and Prof. Richard Williams (SOAS). (Further confirmations from faculties are being awaited and the list will be gradually updated.) They will cover a wide range of themes, including history, literature, linguistics, ethnographic studies, art history, and architecture.

The Summer School will engage in rigorous philological and art-historical analyses of historical and classical texts, poetry, and folk narratives through close readings, fostering a critical understanding of their linguistic historicity and cultural contexts. The program will feature interactive sessions, specialized lectures, and field excursions, enabling participants to engage with primary sources such as old manuscripts, architectural edifices, including forts and temples, and other historically significant sites. Through this interdisciplinary approach, the Summer School will cultivate a nuanced appreciation of the interrelations between textual traditions, visual culture, and material heritage.

Please note that the medium of instruction for the summer school is bilingual (English and Rajasthani). Participants can manage with a basic working knowledge of a language written in the Devanagari script (such as Braj Bhasha/ Hindi).
